To delete log files used for troubleshooting

To troubleshoot communication problems, you can set up Outlook Express to log all commands to and from mail and news servers. These files can get quite large, so it is important to remove them when you are finished troubleshooting.

  1. On the Tools menu, click Options.
  2. Click the Maintenance tab, and then clear any selected check boxes in the Troubleshooting section.
  3. Close Outlook Express, click the Windows Start menu, point to Find, and then click Files or Folders.
  4. In Named, enter the log file.

Log files are named by server type and have a .log extension (for example pop3.log, smtp.log). If you don't know the exact name of the log file, type *.log.

  5. In the Find results list, select the server log file, click the File menu, and then click Delete.
